An introduction to fetal neurosonography using three-dimensional ultrasound

چکیده
Multiplanar mode: nomenclature The multiplanar mode is probably the most useful tool for assessment of the fetal central nervous system (CNS). With this mode of display, the plane parallel to the acquisition plane or “start” appears in the upper left corner of the screen and is identified with the letter A. The plane perpendicular to A, but parallel to the ultrasound beam, is identified with the letter B and appears in the upper right corner. The plane that is both perpendicular to the “start” scan and the ultrasound beam is defined as C (Figure1). Transabdominal 2D ultrasound based on axial planes has, so far, been the standard approach for the imaging of fetal central nervous system abnormalities. In recent years three-dimensional ultrasound has shown to be a potentially useful tool both in basic and detailed examination of the fetal brain. The aim of this paper is to describe the possible applications of this technique.

Registration of 3D fetal neurosonography and MRI☆
We propose a method for registration of 3D fetal brain ultrasound with a reconstructed magnetic resonance fetal brain volume. This method, for the first time, allows the alignment of models of the fetal brain built from magnetic resonance images with 3D fetal brain ultrasound, opening possibilities to develop new, prior information based image analysis methods for 3D fetal neurosonography. The ...
متن کاملBiological Effect of Modern Fetal Ultrasound Techniques on Human Dermal Fibroblast Cells
Background: Diagnostic ultrasound has been used to detect human disease especially fetus abnormalities in recent decades. Although the harmful effects of diagnostic ultrasound on human have not been established so far, several researchers showed it has had bioeffects in cell lines and in experimental animals. Three-dimensional (3D), four-dimensional (4D), and color Doppler sonography are new te...
متن کاملFetal Neurosonography: Ultrasound Findings in Different Types, Associated Syndromes and Impact on Fetal Outcome
Objective: The aim of this study is to show the ultrasound findings in different fetal brain anomalies and specify those which may raise the suspicion of associated extra cranial anomalies. Patients and Method: 60 pregnant women with suspected CNS fetal anomalies by 2D US were examined over a period of 18 months starting from November 2010 until May 2012. Fetal gestation ranged from 8-39 weeks ...
متن کاملEarly Detection of Fetal Abnormality
After introduction of high-frequency vaginal transducer, transvaginal two-dimensional ultrasound has established a field of sonoembryology and most of the major fetal abnormalities have been detectable in the first trimester. Three-dimensional ultrasound adds an objective and comprehensive information to two-dimensional sonographic findings.
متن کاملEditorial review: pediatric 3D ultrasound
Three-dimensional ultrasound is an established diagnostic imaging technique in many specialties. However, in neonates, infants and children three-dimensional ultrasound still is underutilized, partially due to time constraints for post-processing and restricted availability, of devices as well as dedicated pediatric transducers. Also reimbursement issues still need to be addressed. This editori...
